People come to therapy for any and all reasons. What I can promise you is that I will listen deeply to what you bring. I like to be curious and to encourage you to be curious too so that together we can explore your concerns and questions. Sometimes being listened to deeply is enough to release something and for the change process to begin. However, for deep and lasting change to occur you need to be prepared to do the work involved in changing yourself. I call it ‘work’ because it can be difficult and involves a commitment of time, money and effort.
Psychotherapy is a place where I will be there for you every week and will be alongside you to guide you as you work through the process of growing in your self-awareness. I am trained as an integrative psychotherapist and am a full clinical member of UKCP – this means I have had a long and extensive training and have a lot of experience. It also means that I have learned about many different approaches to therapy and bring them together in the way that best suits you and what you need.
My approach is tailored to you, drawing on a range of psychotherapy models to enable us to work deeply and relationally on the difficulties you face. Together we will seek to build your understanding and awareness and to shift unhelpful patterns of relating to yourself, others, to life situations and challenges.
Therapy is a weekly space, just for you, where you can get the support you need. Sessions last 50 minutes and are at the same time every week. I work on an open-ended basis but you can also ask to see me for a specific number of sessions. This could be particularly useful and effective for specific issues such as following a major life event. A useful way to think of open-ended psychotherapy is that it is a bit like walking round a walled garden. The first time we go round the garden we enjoy the splendour of the planting and shape of the different beds. Perhaps there is a bench on which we rest and admire the view. As we revisit the garden again and again, we return to the places we visited before but by revisiting the same places we are able to notice new things and collect more information each time.
